Description
Asphalt interlayer on the subbase is expected to contribute further durability o composite pavement structure. This study was conducted to reveal the degree of structural contribution of above interlayer by mechanical analysis. In a project of expressway construction, a full-scale test section was built to measure the temperature and strain inside of the continuous reinforced concrete slab underneath the asphalt top layers in seasons. A structural model was proposed with 3D-FEM program, for analyzing both thermal and wheel load stresses in the composite pavement. As a result of this analysis, the asphalt interlayer contributes to the reduction of fatigue of composite pavement structure by 10% approximately.
