本邦における神経内分泌腫瘍（NET）の診断，治療ならびに研究に関する情報の共有を目的としてNET Work Japanが2004年に設立され，2002年～2004年の３年間，患者の実態調査と2005年の１年間の受療患者を対象とした第１回疫学調査が行われた。それによると人口10万人あたりのP-NET有病患者数は2.23人，新規発症数は1.01人であり，いずれも欧米より多いことが明らかとなった。また遠隔転移の頻度，非機能性P-NETにおけるMEN1の合併率などが欧米と異なることも分かった。2010年には第２回疫学調査が行われ，その結果の公表が待たれる。P-NETの治療は外科的切除術が唯一の根治的治療であり，局所に留まるP-NETはすべてが切除適応である。
