Description

A 60-year-old man, who presented complaining of an irritating sensation in his right cheek. A MRI revealed a tumor in the pterygopalatine fossa. The tumor was diagnosed to be a schwannoma by an incisional biopsy. The tumor was thus surgically removed using the buccal approach by means of a coronal incision. At surgery the tumor was not found to originate from the nerve. Before surgical treatment, Horner's sign was also observed to be associated, and thus it was assumed that the tumor may have arisen from the cervical sympathetic nerve.
