Description
According to the high temperature as a result of biodegradation and aeration, compost material tends to lose moisture with time. As the moisture is one of the important factors which can affect on composting reaction, it is important to estimate the drying of compost material. In this paper, Aerated Column Reactor (ACR) was assumed one of the composting reactors. As this is the beginning of this research, wood chip which shows very less biodegradation during short period was used for the experiments. Changes in moisture profiles in ACR were observed. Simulation program which can estimate the change in vertical moisuture profiles of wood chip in ACR was also developed. In this program, moisture content of material, relative humidity of supplied air and temperature were considered as the factors which affect on moisture evaporation. As a result, both experimental and simulation results agreed well.
