Description
Extreme value distribution of theL2-norm of 2D Gaussian random vector is derived from chi-square distribution as a parent distribution. For practical convenience normal extreme quantile approximation model is also given. The estreme value distribution depends not only on the correlation coefficient of the random vector elements but also on their standard deviation ratio. Wind load combination factor given in Recommendations for Loads on Buildings, AIJ(2004) is investigated using the derived mean value of extremes. The results show that the wind load combination factor does not give a constant failure probability even though probabilistic consistency is a fundamental requirement in probability-based design.
