Description
Alumina-magnesia castable is mainly applied to steel ladles. This material generally consists of alumina, magnesia, silica and alumina cement, and generates spinel and CA6 when it is heated up. The said spinel makes solid solution with alumina, and generates lattice defect spinel involving cation defect. In such vacancy, FeO in slag can be trapped. Moreover, alumina in the castable material reacts with CaO in slag and generates CA6. Resulting from these reactions, slag viscosity increases which leads to restraint of slag penetration into the castable material. Thus, in this study, the additive amount of each raw material was changed, and its influence on product distribution, alteration of microstructure and slag penetration features were investigated.
