Abstract
Chrysanthemum sensu lato is an important model plant of plant biodiversity in East Asia, Eastern Eurasia based on multi-taxa of more than 100 genera and 1,000 species. It is also distinct as a wild model of polyploidy in genetics and evolutionary biology. It has been applied to breeding sciences, pathology, physiology, utilization of medicine, biochemical sciences and many other fields. However, many more species have not yet been utilized for study. The project conducted by the Laboratory of Plant Chromosome and Gene Stock has been collecting, conserving, characterizing, propagating and distributing chrysanthemum genetic resources collected in East Asia. Since the wild species of chrysanthemum in China and Russia cannot be supplied out of the laboratory due to MTA, their artificial, interspecific hybrids are readily provided for utilization of genes after evaluation and characterization of their genetic information by using ITS, molecular cytogenetics, development of polymorphic genetic makers and so on.
