Abstract

Nobunaga-ki and Taiko-ki, Oze-Hoan's war narratives, has been ragarded as unreliable material for historical studies, for the author freely altered the historical documents and even tampered with facts to make his stories interesting. Although his works seem to be a literary hack's slipshod job, in fact the author created them on the basis of his own philosophy of history. Nendai-kiryaku, a chronicle that Oze edited and revised every time it was reprinted, will give a clue to understanding what his idea of history was and how he turned it into narrative form.
