Description

This paper discuss a consideration of the problems in promoting proper prescription and use of the upper limb prostheses in Japan. Former researches and our recent work on the body-powered transhumeral prosthesis are presented. Body-powered prosthesis is an old and popular technology. However they are commonly denied in Japan, regardless of their superior feedback control loop based on Extended Physiological Proprioception. For transhumeral amputees, the body-powered system is a more useful device then the current myoelectric system for performing their activities of daily living. Therefore, the situation must be improved to have the people to understand and value the technology properly. We had challenged the technical drawback of adjusting the control cable system by experimenting the transmission efficiency and developing a numerical simulator. The meantime report and our future works are discussed.
