Cinoxacin, a new synthetic antibacterial agent, was evaluated on pharmacokinetics in healthy adults and clinical effect for urinary tract infections.
1) The mean peak serum concentration in 6 healthy male adults, when each subject received a single 400mg oral dose of cinoxacin, was 8.5μg/ml with bioassay. Fifty-two per cent of the drug was excreted in the urine within the first 8 hours.
2) Its clinical effect for 47 cases of acute simple cystitis included 34 excellent effective cases, 12 moderate effective cases and 1 poor effective case, the overall effective rate being 97.9%. The clinical effect for 14 chronic complicated cystitis contained 2 excellent effective cases, 5 moderate effective cases and 7 poor effective cases, the rate of effectiveness being 50%.
3) As for side effects, slight epigastralgia was observed in 2 cases.
