By preparing and introducing dibenzothiophene (DBT), 4-methyl-DBT, 4, 6-dimethyl-DBT, and 2, 8-dimethyl-DBT, methyl-group, ethyl-group, propyl-group, isopropyl-group, and 110 of substituted DBT were obtained. The major compounds prepared were methyl-, dimethyl-, trimethyl-, tetramethyl-, pentamethyl-, hexamethyl, ethyl-, diethyl-, triethyl-, ethyl-methyl-, diethyl-methyl-, and ethyl-dimethyl-DBTs. Retention indices and characteristics in the mass spectra (ratio of the largest fragment ion to the parent ion) were measured for each compound.
