抄録

In order to delineate the relationship between the nutrient intake and growth rate, we investigated the physical conditions of 121 healthy children aged 6 to 15 years living in a child welfare institution in Osaka from June 1984 to June 1985, and the food intake of 106 children in August, 1984. The results were as follows.<br>1) Their height and weight were significantly inferior to the mean of children living in Osaka except boys aged 10 and 11 years and girls aged 9 to 12 and 14 years. On the other hand, the increase in their height and weight for one year was not significantly different or significantly larger than the means of children living in Osaka.<br>2) Their energy and protein intakes met the requirements of National Recommended Allowances except for girls aged 9 to 15 years. The animal protein ratios of their dietary protein ranged from 54 to 61% and the lipid energy ratios of their dietary energy from 26 to 32%.<br>These results suggest that their food intake was adequate despite somewhat lower values of the nutrient intakes for some of them compared to the National Recommended Allowance.
