Description

1. The volume transport (above 1500 m) of the Oyashio Current in the seas adjacent to the southern Kurile Islands amounts to about 15 million m3/sec, and one-third of the transport is derived from the Okhotsk Sea, another one-third from the Bering Sea, and the last one-third belongs to the cyclonic eddy which is always located off the middle Kurile Islands.<BR>2. The transport (above 1500m) of the westward current south off the Aleutian Islands amounts to about 10 million m3/sec.<BR>3. Both currents above mentioned form the parts of a large cyclonic circulation in the northwestern North Pacific.
