Description

Herein, we report the importance of play therapies that focus on the active physical interaction between the client and the therapist to create an “intermediate region” for the development of body images. The client had grown up in an abusive environment with poor emotional attachments. Although he had physically adjusted himself to the environment, his body images seemed introverted and immature. Through the therapies, the client chose the sandplay pictures and several interactive physical plays with the therapist in order to proactively establish his internal and external body images. The therapist attempted to feel and receive the client’s anger and pain physically. An intermediate region was built between them through the therapies, which helped the client to realize his psychological growth and changes. The client had connected his internal and external body images and developed an integrated self-body image in order to live in the real life.
