Abstract

<p> Drag coefficient, a very important parameter for air-sea momentum flux estimation, is suitably and accurately measured in steady wind turbulent flow field laboratory experiments. Nevertheless, with the fetch of the wind wave tank being limited in such setup, an approach to extend fetch in the laboratory may be necessary. Previous paper(11) proposed the loop-type wave generation method for producing wind waves under long fetch conditions in wind wave tank, however, with no vertical distribution of the wind speed. In this study, we aimed to establish a loop-type wind method that reproduce at entrance part the vertical distribution of the wind speed of the exit part of the wind wave tank. Moreever we aimed to develop a hybrid loop method that combines the loop type wind method and the loop type wave generation method.. Morever, using a blade adjusting mechanism for controlling wind at the entrance of the wind-wave-tank, we succeeded in reproducting the vertical distribution of the wind speed at the exit of the wind-wave-tank. In addition, as a result of examining the hybrid loop method that combines the airflow and the wave loop, we admitted the tendency of the loop to develop the wave and the possibility of expanding the fetch. Thus, loop-type hybrid method can improve the reproducibility of ocean phenomena in laboratory experiments.</p>
