Description
In the state where two or more different actors are living together, that is kyōsei, we can distinguish two different types. (1) "Kyōsei by utility" (ecological symbiosis), on the one hand, where kyōsei is based on a so-called service-resource relationship and framed for fulfilling a specific purpose. This kind of ecological symbiosis is seen in the living world (also called ‘mutualism’) and the economy. (2) “Kyōsei by meaningfulness” (existential symbiosis), on the other hand is a kind of relation where partnership is itself the purpose; it’s meaningfulness is felt by the individual, so it requires a partner, as a result of which kyōsei is established. This type of kyōsei is mainly found in profound human relationships and is shaped independently of resources. In this paper, I would like to propose a new classification of the kyōsei concept based on these two ideal types.
