Description

This article explicated the historical background of the appearance of dual domiciles of the Emperor and the ex-Emperor in the Nara Palace, the Kuni Palace and the Shigaraki Palace. For that purpose, I investigated the relationship between the political powers of the Emperor and the ex-Emperor from the Aska to the Heian Period. I further examined the transition of the spatial relationship between the location of the domiciles of the Emperor and the ex-Emperor in the Palaces during the same period.
