Description

The present study was made to examine retention characteristics of the kinetic information on the intensity of a force. Fifty junior college students participated in the experiment. The experimental procedure is represented by repeating the criterion movement taking stage and the movement reproducing stage. In this procedure, the groups of making a pause between the former to latter stage and the groups of assigning the between time to an interpolated task taking time were set up and examined comparatively for the absolute error on the movement reproduction. The criterion movement was to make power regulation of isometric elbow flexion with the aid of visual feedback of EMG, and the interpolated task, to take an antagonistic movement. The experimental results indicated the accuracy of the movement reproduction to be inhibited by a prolongation of the time of pause and a loading of the interpolated task, and this suggested the kinetic information on the intensity of a force to have both a characteristic of its spontaneous decay with time and a characteristic of its intentional retention by means of some retentional strategy.
