Description

This report describes the use of collage therapy to treat developmental trauma disorder (DTD) and trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) in an 11-year-old girl who suffered from childhood trauma. The author conducted 18 sessions over the course of one year and four months. After the first 12 sessions, the client expressed intentions to end the psychotherapy. Three months later, the client re-initiated psychotherapy, following her psychotherapist’s advice. Her trichotillomania disappeared, while “father images” appeared. Recovery from trichotillomania and dramatic social progress were observed through collage therapy. In this report, the therapeutic implications of “father images” and the clarification of the need to restart psychotherapy are discussed.
