The Jr. Science project has provided scientific education for pupils and a favorable impression of Sendai National College of Technology for the community. The "Let's Study Batteries" program on August 4 and 5, 2005, during the summer vacation, was intended to stimulate creativity and scientific interest in participants. The 73 participants consisted of 50 pupils with their parents. In the program, the participants learned how to make batteries of charcoal, tofu, and fruits such as bananas, watermelons and grapefruits. Furthermore, the Miura-ori folding process was presented, based on the traditional Japanese paper-folding art of "Origami". Analysis of their questionnaire responses revealed that the participants enjoyed making the batteries and Origami.
