Description

A 57-year-old woman presented with a 1-year history of a gradually enlarging solid tumor in the occipital region. Histopathological findings revealed that nests of adeno-carcinomatous tumor cells, floating in the mucinous cystic foci located in the dermis. The tumor cells were immunohistochemically positive for Cytokeratin (CK) 7 and negative for CK 20. Computed tomography (CT) showed osteolytic change of the cranial bone under the tumor. No evidence of distant metastases was found in whole body examination using positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT). The patient was diagnosed with primary mucinous carcinoma of the skin (PMCS) based on the histological and systemic examinations. Radical tumor excision and occipital scalp reconstruction by artificial bone replacement and occipital artery flap were performed. There is no evidence of tumor recurrence or metastasis 3 years after the surgery.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2020 ; 35 : 20-26]
