New learning in the Korean alternative school : in relation to co-operation/association

The purpose of this study is to clarify, 1) the process of movement of education in alternative schools and the features of new learning in Seoul, Korea, 2) the value of practices generated from “new learning”, which support children's daily lives, in consequences with co-operation/association among teachers, parents and local people. The result shows that there are two major conditions which support children's daily lives: 1) they enlarge networks of,“relationship among adults mediated by children”,“relationship between children and adults”and“relationship among children”, based on co-operation/association of these alternative schools and local communities. The learning contents and practices realize the diversity of children's daily lives which responds to traditional knowledge overemphasis style. 2) they are independent from the ideology, that is, Unification of Learning. The leaning practices at these alternative schools support children's daily lives and assist the re-formation of oneself and community. We analyze“image of learning”and“image of schools”of three cases and break them down into 3 prototypes:“Co-operation/association of New Learning”,“Educational Welfare Based/Oriented”, and“Alternative Learning Based/Oriented”.
