Abstract

In response to the recent revision of the Course of Study which places an emphasis on children's first-hand experience, varieties of Friendship Programs supported by the Ministry of Education and other voluntary programs have been implemented at not a few universities and colleges for teacher education. These programs are providing college students with experience in the nature and expecting that such experience will promote their personal and intellectual growth. To begin with, in this study, a group of students are divided into two different groups, the experienced and the unexperienced, in terms of the extent and frequency of their voluntary participation in activities in the nature. Then, they are asked to fill out the same questionnaire which probes their thoughts and ideas of several nature-related facts and phenomena. Through analyzing their description comparatively, the effect of experience in the nature on students' cognition are examined.
