Abstract
Niijima jo's mother, Tomi, was born as a daughter of a grain dealer in Urawa in 1807. Because of Jo's death in 1890, Tomi dictated her personal history. According to her dictation, when Tomi was fourteen years old, she went out to one of the Country Officials in Edo to service. On the basis of historical sources, this research identifies his characteristic and achievement, explicates his family, and specifies the place in Tokyo today, where Tomi served.
