The grand research focus on these Ryokan´s historical background, management issues, relation with local economy, good management practices, and its future prospective. This paper focus on the management of family-owned Ryokans as a family business, and attempts to integrate the "Socioemotional Wealth" theory in family business research, the "Effectuation" theory that has been attracting attention in the field of entrepreneurship research in recent years, and the "Family Entrepreneurship" theory. This paper reviews existing literature in the field of "family entrepreneurship" research and attempts to analyze it within the framework of family entrepreneurship research through a case study of a family-owned Ryokan that has been the focus of the grand research. In this paper, I introduce the seven field-studied cases of Ryokans <as of May 2022>, especially those that contribute to the local economy, work for local revitalization, and make progressive efforts, and attempt to analyze them within the framework of the family entrepreneurship research.
