Description

Based on the idea that the way one interacts with one’s own theme externalized as a yokai may be related to one’s interpersonal relationships, this study examined the significance of drawing yokai by comparing it with one’s consciously perceived personality using an egogram. Therefore, this study modified Yasukawa et al.’s (2022) method for yokai-themed drawing, and examined the drawing process and drawing experience in yokai drawing from a case study perspective, using a questionnaire survey and interviews. The results indicated that the teaching of a yokai that may be around us evokes images of [one’s own inner characteristics], [relationships with others], and [images of the yokai itself], and that it may be possible to externalize images that do not work well in the context of yokai. In relation to the egogram, it was suggested that the structure of the ego state and the amount of energy may be related to the drawing expression and its image recall. In addition, in the subsequent narrative and reflections, the subjects had experiences in which they became aware of new aspects of themselves and grasped the opportunity for change, which may lead to the clinical application of yokai drawing.
