Description

A 78-year-old woman noticed a nodule in the vicinity of her anus that gradually increased in size, in addition to subcutaneous nodules in the bilateral inguinal areas. Physical examination at the time of her first visit showed a yellowish mass (65×30 mm) accompanied by skin erosions near her anus, with enlarged bilateral inguinal lymph nodes. Computed tomography revealed multiple enlarged lymph nodes extending from the bilateral inguinal and left external iliac to the para-aortic region. A skin biopsy of the mass showed a mixture of tumor cells with atypical nuclei and foamy clear cytoplasm with sebaceous differentiation, and we diagnosed the patient with unresectable advanced sebaceous carcinoma. Combination chemotherapy using carboplatin and paclitaxel was initiated, and a partial response was achieved during the 15th course of treatment ; however, drug-induced eye injury necessitated treatment discontinuation. Combination chemotherapy using carboplatin and paclitaxel may be effective for treatment of unresectable advanced sebaceous carcinomas.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2024 ; 39 : 36-40]
