Abstract

In this study, methods of aseismic retrofitting were developed for abutments in which soil-mixed column walls were linked to abutments along the sides of tracks. Tilting tests in the gravity field were conducted to confirm the reinforcement effect and mechanisms of the proposed method. Through tilting tests, we confirmed that the stability of the abutments improved due to the ground resistance of the soil-mixed column walls passing through the linking members, working as resistance to the abutment. The ground resistance of the soil-mixed column walls was reproduced using a non-linear spring based on the reinforcing mechanism, and a static non-linear analysis produced results matching the behavior of the tilting tests.
