Description

In 1950s, it was a golden age of antibiotic research and many medicines have been developed from microbial metabolites. However, since 1990s, natural product screening has been diminished and the high-throughput screening (HTS) has drawn attention. Namely, chemical libraries synthesized by combinatorial chemistry deprived drug screening of natural products. Natural products have drawbacks, such as time-consuming for the sample-preparation and difficulties in synthesis of derivatives. Here, we have to reconfirm the weaknesses and strengths of natural products, and to create a new strategy for drug screening from natural products. In this paper, I would like to propose a remedy for the problems of these natural products drug discovery.
