Description

<p>A 16-year-old man suffered cardiac arrest after complaining of respiratory discomfort. Resuscitation resulted in resumption of heartbeat, and targeted temperature management was performed. The cause of cardiopulmonary arrest was respiratory failure due to the respiratory muscles weakened by Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy and pneumonia. After tracheostomy was performed, he was transferred to the general ward.</p><p>Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy causes respiratory dysfunction through severe deformity of the spine or thorax and weakening of the respiratory muscles. In the general ward, active involvement of the RST in management of patients with severe respiratory failure was considered to facilitate provision of adequate respiratory care.</p>
