Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the effect of the erect and prostrate canopy on soil temperature under film mulch and on the deviation of 10 soil temperatures. Nine experimental plots were prepared. These plots had either no mulch, black mulch, or transparent mulch, and also had either prostrate canopy, erect canopy, or no canopy. In the daytime, soil temperatures under the erect canopy in all mulches increased higher than those under the prostrate canopy, while at night those under the prostrate canopy became higher than those under the erect canopy. At 6:00, solar radiation and air temperature affected the soil temperature under the erect and prostrate canopy in all mulches. At 15:00, solar radiation was the main factor affecting soil temperature under the erect canopy in all mulches, and was not observed in the prostrate canopy. In the deviation of 10 soil temperatures in each plot, solar radiation and air temperature were the main factors affecting soil temperature at 6:00 and at 15:00.
