Description

The current paper, as the second part of a study that aimed to contribute toward further development of universal design (UD) fonts, focused on the results of readability testing. By analyzing the correlation among the participants' groups, we found that young, experienced, and senior participants judged readability by the same criteria for bold type as they used for headings with a larger size. Only the rounded-Gothic typefaces' outcomes revealed a correlation between the results and visual attributes. The readability ratings for body text fonts showed a remarkable difference between the senior and young-experienced participants. However, the visual attributes that influenced the evaluation differed depending on the font category. Comparison of the results of the aesthetic evaluation and those of readability evaluation suggest that these evaluations were judged on the same criteria. However, the visual attributes that affected each evaluation were different for every font.
