Description
English words written in katakana are sometimes misleading and even improper for communication with foreigners. I have witnessed many Japanese having difficulties in international communication using English they acquired through Katakana. In the last fifteen years, I have collated, analyzed, and classified the various problems of English words written in katakana. There are many words that are in no way English. There has been a growing concern over the issue of Japanese English in katakana among a lot of foreigners in Japan. Some assert to ban katakana. Recently, it has been proposed as to whether English should become the second official language of Japan, which is not within the scope of this study of mine. Before all, it is vital now to examine a flood of strange and coined Japanese English in katakana, which impairs international communication in general. Tourism is also one of the major areas hampered by this communication impediment.
