Abstract

Metal wires of Pb, Zn and Fe_<77.5>Si_<7.5>B_<15> were produced by the In-Rotating-Water Spinning Method. The effects on the shape of wire of drum velocity (5.2-8.5m/s), jet ejection velocity (3.5-10.0m/s), incidence angle (30, 45, 60 deg) and nozzle diameter (0.1 and 0.2mm) as well as the kind of metals were examined. Pb showed the best spinnability among the tested metals, although the cross section was relatively flat and marked ripples were formed on the wire surface when the incidence angle and jet velocity were relatively large. A long, straight Fe_<77.5>Si_<7.5>B_<15> wire that had smooth surface and round cross-section was obtained with a 0.2-mm-dia. nozzle when the jet velocity and the drum velocity were almost the same. The Fe_<77.5>Si_<7.5>B_<15> wire produced with a 0.1-mm-dia. nozzle however showed the shape like a string of beads.
