Description

In order to determine the horticultural varieties of the pumpkin suitable for the culture of Pseudococcus comstocki Kuwana in connection with the mass culture of its parasite, the author made a comparative study of the ratio of settlement, developmental rate, body size and sex-ratio of the scale on several varieties of the pumpkin. The result is follows: Chirimen and Aichi-chirimen are the most suitable host-supporting media for this scale. Futsu-kurokawa and Shira-kikuza are not so suitable as the two varieties mentioned above. Shin-tosa and Aizu-wase are seemed to be of no value as the supporting media.
