Abstract

Suite sur B-A-C-H No.2 for Piano was composed as one of Suite sur B-A-C-H for Piano series in the period of early November 2004 through mid-December 2004. This series consists of three works: Suite No.1, Suite No.2, and Suite No.3. Although these works are common in that each uses B-A-C-H (Bb -A-C-B), a German letter name, as a part of the main motif or a phrase, the musical style of each work great! y differs. Suite No. 1 is composed in the style of tonal music. Its music form is not much different from French Suite for Keyboard or classical suites such as Partita by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Suite No. 2 is composed in the style of twelve-tone technique, devised by Arnold Schonberg (1874-1951). Suite No.3 is not composed in a particular style. Although it has some influence of Collage sur B-A-C-H composed by Arvo Part (1935-), this suite is basically composed in a style and a form not limited by any already-established style or form. This Suite sur B-A-C-H for Piano series is "hommage" to the music by Johann Sebastian Bach. To express this, the letter name, B-A-C-H, is used in each title name. In Suite No.2, the first note of each three-note group in a twelve-note-row is B-A-C-H. Due to limitations of space, only the musical score of Suite No.2 is given here including all five movements except the fourth.
