Description

Since the establishment of Kyoto in 794, market gardeners have provided fresh vegetables for its population. This article summarizes the past and present of the Furi-Uri vendors, gardeners offering fresh vegetables for Kyoto residents. The analysis indicates that Fri-Uri vendors contributed to the reconstruction of a firm relationship between consumers and producers as Kyoto rapidly urbanized in the late 20th century.
