The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of the school leaders' professional learning contributing to School-Based Curriculum Development (SBCD). The participants were three school leaders who facilitated the SBCD in elementary schools. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to the school leaders. We collected the data about the process of the SBCD, their roles for the SBCD and their professional learning which was necessary to facilitate the SBCD. Data indicated the school leaders developed the problem solving for realization and improvement of the SBCD and their professional learning was necessary in many cases. In addition, four features of their professional learning were found. Firstly, their professional learning was activated in problem solving for managing the resources. Secondly, there are the four kinds of school leaders' professional learning for the SBCD: reflection on their experiences, following the advices from others, getting ideas from literature and fieldwork. Thirdly, their professional learning was regarded caring their emotional conflicts in many cases. Fourthly, their professional learning was strongly clinical and situational than general leadership development.
