The aim of this paper is to examine the control of the religious city by Sengoku Daimyo power, studying two laws for Kizuki Taisha shrine city issued by the Amago family, the Daimyo of Izumo. Amago's basic plan for control of the shrine city was to maintain Kokuzo's (priests)rights as ruler of the city and shrine. Amago's laws admitted Kokuzo to judge trouble between Oshi (priests who assist pilgrims), and to take action against crime in the city. But …
