Description

Pictograms are considered useful for preschool children because they are nonverbal communication and use graphics. Although, standardized pictograms are created for ages 15 and older, and ISO and JIS comprehension surveys don’t cover children under 15. The purpose of this study is to clarify the conditions for pictograms that are easy to understand for preschool children. A survey was conducted to observe descriptions by children and to rank pictograms in terms of understandability. It was found that partial figurative and addition of context through objects, movement, and self-projectable humanoid (5 heads: child) were easy to understand.
