Description

Agricultural ponds, which have existed in a region since ancient times, are not only an important water resource for the region, but also play an important role in the water environment, biodiversity, and the history and culture of the region. Despite their diverse functions and challenges, agricultural ponds in Japan are undergoing a major transformation due to the declining birthrate and aging population, changes in the environment surrounding agriculture, and the increasing severity and frequency of heavy rainfall disasters. The changes are expected to be particularly significant for medium- and small-scale reservoirs, of which there are a vast number. Therefore, in this study, we conducted an analysis on agricultural ponds based on changes in the water environment, and conducted research on multifaceted evaluation of reservoirs that can be used for future maintenance and management.
