Description
This paper reports on the excavated materials from the first survey of Jonokoshi Shell Mound in Onga Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, which are in the collection of the Kyushu University Museum. Analysis of the excavated Yayoi pottery revealed that the pottery excavated ranged from Itazuke II a style of the late Early Yayoi Period to Sugu II style of the late Middle Yayoi Period. Among them, Jonokoshi type of the early Middle Yayoi Period and Sugu I type of the first half of the Middle Yayoi Period were found to be particularly abundant. In addition, the results of the analysis of the stratigraphic conditions and excavated pottery in the first survey indicated that it is difficult to find a clear correspondence between the stratigraphic level and the newness or antiquity of the pottery.
