Abstract

Articles

Since the beginning of 2023, ChatGPT has begun to spread rapidly in Japan. ChatGPT is rapidly becoming popular not only on its own, but also as a built-in version of Edge-Bing and Google. In response to this situation, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and technology and many universities have so far published guidelines for responding to generative AI such as ChatGPT. Therefore, in order to consider new information literacy education using these generative AIs, the author conducted an assignment and a questionnaire related to information gathering. As a result, although the results were limited to the students in charge of the author, it became clear that they had not sufficiently acquired the skills to indicate the sources of information collection. It was also found that although many students use Wikipedia, they do not often use dictionaries, Kotobank, newspaper article archives, etc. Based on the above results, the author devised a new applied subject for information literacy in which students acquire the skills to cite information correctly through learning information ethics and traditional information gathering methods, and then acquire the skills to use generative AI. However, this new applied subject requires that students have already mastered the previous information literacy subject, which mainly focuses on teaching skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
