Description

The communication performance has been improved greatly by applying coded-modulations to the fundamental digital modulation system. Furthermore, the communication capacity and quality in wireless communications progressed greatly by a space-time block coding (STBC). The STBC system has several TX-antennas and orthogonal waveforms are simultaneously transmitted, and the signal is received by RX-antennas and then decoded. This is also called a MIMO (Multi-Input-Multi-Output) system. That is, the communication systems have been evolved from the SISO system to the MIMO system. The weather radar is a typical radar which shares a single parabola antenna for transmission and reception. This can be called a SISO (Single-Input-Single-Output) radar. Considering that the communication systems have evolved from the SISO system to the MIMO system, it would be natural that the MIMO system is applied for the radar system. In this report, we first discuss the communication and radar systems from a viewpoint of the trend from SISO to MIMO. After discussing the high resolution technique for the radar systems, simulation results are reported for some of the fundamental parameters of the MIMO radar.
