Description
A feedback-based congestion control mechanism is essential to provide efficient data transfer services in a packet-switched network. The feedback-based congestion controlo mechanism regulates traffic fows from source terminals. With an appropriate congestin control mechanism, it si possible to prevent packet losses in the network, and to utilize network resources effectively. A window-based flow control mechanism called TCP (Transmission Control Protocol), a sort of feedback-based congestion control mechanisms, has been widely used in current TCP/IP networks. Recently, TCP Vegas has been proposed, which is another version of the TCP mechanism and has potential to achieve much better performance than current TCP Tahoe and Reno. In this paper, we focus on a window-based flow control mechanism based on the congestion avoidance mechanism of the TCP Vegas, and analyze its stability and transient behavior based on a control theoretic approach.
