Description

This paper describes Lyapunov exponents in the piecewise linear systems with two regions. In these systems, periodic solutions or chaotic motions appear. Lyapunov exponents give some criterion for appearance of chaos. Explicit expressions of Lyapunov exponents are represented under transformation of coordinates, and demonstrate no occurrence of chaos in the piecewise linear system for constant external forces. Theoretical investigations of periodically forced piecewise linear system suggest that Lyapunov exponents give the region of possibility for chaos.
