Description
One of the authors previously reported a technique to form artificial twin quartz. After depositing a thin metal film of Cr or NiCr on a quartz plate, the substrate is thermally treated. Thermal treatment at 540-560℃ produces x-axis inversion for the quartz under the film. For practical applications of the twin quartz, it is desired to form the twin quartz at a temperature as low as possible. It was proven that current heating of the metal film on the quartz surtace is very effective for the twinning. The x-axis inversion occurred at an ambient temperature around 5OO℃ a very low heating current.
