Description
The pressure sore of the sitting surface is a major problem for patients with spinal cord injury. The pressure on the skin is an important factor of developing pressure sore. In this study we measured the pressure distribution in sitting surface using the Tekscan pressure measurement system First, we measured the pressure distribution beneath the buttock in 5 normal subjects sitting on 5 different chairs. Next we measured the pressure of 6 patients with spinal cord injury in siting position using 5 kinds of cushions (air, cubic, gel, contour, urethan foam) seated on their own wheelchairs We calculated 4 parameters to indicate the pressure dispersive character of each cushion.
