Description
Differential pulse code modulation(DPCM)is a well-known simple and easy implementable coding scheme of images, which keeps high visual quality in high bit rates. However,in low bit rates,it is difficult to keep high visual quality. In this paper we propose a new image coding scheme by DPCM involving variable density sampling and optimal source coding for Laplacian distributed signals. The computer simulated results show that the proposed scheme is superior to ADCT in SNR and will be applicable to practical systems.
