Description
This study examined presentation methods that improve intravenous solution identification, aiming to prevent medical accidents. We asked 21 women in their twenties to forties in Fukuoka Prefecture to select relevant intravenous solutions from 30 sample images presented in 3 different ways: <verbal instructions>, <text presentation>, and <text + image presentation>. We determined the accurate identification rate and the time required for identification, and compared these among the 3 presentation methods. The mean accurate identification rate was significantly lower for <verbal instructions> than for <text presentation> (p<0.01) and <text + image presentation> (p<0.05). The mean time required for identification was significantly shorter for <text + image presentation> than for <verbal instructions> and <text presentation> (p<0.001). The results showed that intravenous solutions can be identified more accurately and in less time when they are presented with images displayed in electronic medical records than with verbal instructions.
